"It seems as of we are all appetite, as if a human being is simply a bundle of needs to drain the world. Its no wonder there are wars..."(135).

I think the quote from Nell is very relevant, in this time period it is truer than ever. I don’t think we even realize how much just us as one person consumes in a day. Try to think about how much you consume, I know I consume a lot! Now imagine the entire world. There are so many people in this world consuming as much or more than you every single day. I feel like we just take and take from the earth. We consume and use so many more resources, a lot of them that we cannot re use, like oil that is just being used up and we are not finding any more of it, so we go to war with other countries so we can take their oil and food. We are definitely all appetite. It’s very scary when you really think about it.

I know it was wishful thinking, but I secretly hoped they would be saved at the end. I didn’t like that they used the gas to burn the house down, it seemed very pointless to me to just waste all that wood and burn all their memories and beds and resources to go live out in the woods with a new born child. I think they could have gone about it in a different way, or just not burned the house down at all. In case they needed to go back to it. Especially since there is a bear hanging around. If it was just the two sisters I think they could have definitely lived in the forest, but they have a child. So I guess I was a little disappointed. It was a cool way to end the story, great book!

  1. Very true i know i consume resources without a thought of what it costs and then it kinda puts it into perspective when you think of if everyone does the same thing

  2. indeed, we use too much of what we don't really need. why do we take 2 showers a day? why doesn't everyone carpool or ride bikes to school/work? we need to change our habits!
